By this invention, novel nucleic acid sequences encoding for acyl- CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT) related proteins are provided, wherein said ACAT-like protein is active in the formation of a sterol ester and/or triacylglycerol from a fatty acyl-CoA and sterol and/or diacylglycerol substrates. Also considered are amino acid and nucleic acid sequences obtainable from ACAT-like nucleic acid sequences and the use of such sequences to provide transgenic host cells capable of producing sterol esters and/or triacylglycerols.
La présente invention concerne de nouvelles séquences d'acide nucléique codant pour acyl-CoA, à savoir des protéines apparentées à la cholestérol acyltransférase (ACAT), ladite protéine en rapport avec ACAT intervenant activement dans la formation de stérol éther et/ou de triacylglycérol à partir d'un acyl-CoA gras et de stérol et/ou de substrats de diacylglycérol. L'invention concerne également des séquences d'acide aminé et d'acide nucléique pouvant être obtenues à partir de séquences d'acide nucléique en rapport avec ACAT et l'utilisation de telles séquences pour l'obtention de cellules hôtes transgéniques capables de produire des stérol esters et/ou des triacylglycérols.
