This invention relates to acylated benzylglycosides and a method for the use of acylated benzylglycosides as smooth muslce cell proliferation inhibitors and as therapeutic compositions for treating diseases and conditions which are characterized by excessive smooth muscle proliferation, such as restenosis. The acylated benzylglycosides of this invention are those of formula (I), where X is (a), (b). R1 is H, alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, chloro, bromo, or alkoxy having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R2 is H, an acyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, phenylsulfonyl, or substituted phenylsulfonyl; and R3 is an acyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, benzoyl, substituted benzoyl, alkylsulfonyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, phenylsulfonyl, or substituted phenylsulfonyl; R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, and R9 are each, independently, an acyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and R10 and R11 are each, independently, an acyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or the R10 and R11 groups on the 4' and 6' positions of the maltose or the 4 and 6 positions of the glucose from an isopropylidene group; or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
On décrit des benzylglycosides acylés, les sels de ceux-ci, acceptables sur le plan pharmacologique, ainsi que l'utilisation de ces composés en tant qu'inhibiteurs de la prolifération cellulaire du muscle lisse et en tant que compositions thérapeutiques destinées à traiter des maladies et des états qui sont caractérisés par une prolifération excessive du muscle lisse, tels que la resténose. Ces benzylglycosides acylés possèdent la formule (I) dans laquelle X est (a) ou (b), R¿1? représente H, alkyle possédant 1 à 6 atomes de carbone, chloro, bromo ou alcoxy possédant 1 à 6 atomes de carbone; R¿2? représent H, un groupe acyle possédant 1 à 6 atomes de carbone, phénylsulfonyle ou phénylsulfonyle substitué; et R¿3? représente un groupe acyle possédant 1 à 8 atomes de carbone, benzoyle, benzoyle substitué, alkylsulfonyle possédant 1 à 6 atomes de carbone, phénylsulfonyle ou phénylsulfonyle substitué; R¿4?, R¿5?, R¿6?, R¿7?, R¿8? et R¿9? représentent indépendamment chacun un groupe acyle possédant 1 à 6 atomes de carbone, et R¿10? et R¿11? représentent indépendamment chacun un groupe acyle possédant 1 à 6 atomes de carbone, ou bien les groupes R¿10? et R¿11? en position 4' et 6' du maltose ou en position 4 et 6 d u glucose forment un groupe isopropylidène.
