Hydrocarbyl substituted carboxylic compositions and derivatives thereof useful as additives for lubricating oil and fuel compositions. Carboxylic compositions are derived from (A) an olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon, said hydrocarbon having at least one allylic hydrogen atom, and (B) an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic compound prepared by reacting (1) an active methylene compound of formula (I) and (2) a carbonyl compound of general formula (II) wherein Ra is H or hydrocarbyl and Rb is a member of the group consisting of H, hydrocarbyl and (III), wherein each R' is independently R or OR and each R is, independently, H or a hydrocarbyl group; and lower alkyl acetals, ketals, hemiacetals and hemiketals of the carbonyl compound (2). Carboxylic derivative compositions are obtained by reacting the carboxylic compositions with a reactant selected from the group consisting of (a) amines characterized by the presence within their structure of at least one condensable H-N< group, (b) alcohols, (c) reactive metal or reactive metal compounds, and (d) a combination of two or more of any of (a) through (c), the components of (d) being reacted with the carboxylic composition simultaneously or sequentially, in any order.
La présente invention concerne des compositions carboxyliques à substitution hydrocarbyle et certains de leurs dérivés, convenant comme additifs pour huiles lubrifiantes et compositions de combustibles. Les compositions carboxyliques sont dérivées de (A) un hydrocarbure oléfiniquement insaturé, ledit hydrocarbure portant au moins un atome d'hydrogène allylique, et (B) un composé carboxylique .alpha.,.beta.-insaturé préparé en faisant réagir (1) un composé méthylène actif représenté par la formule (I), et (2) un composé carbonyle représenté par la formule générale (II) où R?a¿ est H ou hydrocarbyle et R?b¿ est un membre du groupe constitué de H, hydrocarbyle et (III), où chaque R' est indépendamment R ou OR et chaque R est, indépendamment, H ou un groupe hydrocarbyle; et des alkyl-acétals inférieurs, cétals, hémiacétals et hémicétals du composé carbonyle (2). Les compositions de dérivés carboxyliques s'obtiennent par réaction des compositions carboxyliques avec un réactif appartenant au groupe des (a) amines caractérisées par la présence dans leur structure d'au moins un groupe H-N< condensable, (b) alcools, (c) métal réactif ou composé à métal réactif, et (d) une combinaison d'au moins deux de l'un quelconque des (a) à (c), les composants de (d) ayant mis à réagir avec la composition carboxylique, simultanément ou séquentiellement, l'ordre étant indifférent.
