ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of operating a diesel engine having at least one combustion chamber, using an alcohol fuel comprises pro- viding a glowing member in the combustion chamber, continuously activating the glowing member so that it continuously glows through the operation of the engine and injecting the alcohol fuel into the chamber periodically so that, with the same frequency as the periodic injecting, the alcohol ignites in the combustion chamber.
