ABSTRACT An adapter for connecting a compact discharge lamp (13) to household voltage terminals (5,6) in a lamp fitting (B) via an electrical adapter circuit (25,26) with electrical components (26a) inside an adapter housing (9,10) provided with a holder portion (11) for receiving and holding the base portion (12) of the compact discharge lamp. The housing comprises a base part (9), which is provided with two contact means (8) adapted for connection with a respective one of the terminals (5,6), and a cover part (10), the top of which is provided with the lamp holder portion (11). The electrical adapter circuit with the associated electrical components is arranged on at least one upright circuit card (25,26) having at its lower and upper edge portions means (26b,30) for establishing electrical connection to the contact means (27 and 8,28) and to the terminal pins (31) of the compact discharge lamp (18), respectively.
