An adapter (10) utilized to interconnect a fluid container (88) and a tubing set (90) having a retractable spike (14) and a rolling seal diaphragm (18) for establishing fluid flow communication between a nutrition container and an administration tubing set (90) while maintaining a fluid-tight seal. The rolling seal diaphragm (18) includes a rolling seal portion (80) which sealingly engages the retractable spike (14) which remains engaged with the spike body (12) while the spike is biased between an engaged position and a disengaged position.
