ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An adapter clip for retaining a molding member adja- cent a panel having an upstanding headed stud mounted thereon. The adapter has an inclined ramp with an opening therein for receiving the headed stud and the opening is formed partially by a uni-directional linear guide surface which extends from an upturned flange portion of the clip towards a connecting flange portion. The guide surface terminates at a notched portion which also partially forms the opening. A torsionally resilient arm extends into the ramp opening and is cantilevered adjacent the lower portion of the upturned flange. The torsional resilient arm has a camming surface which forms an angle with the guide sur- face and disposed in spaced relation with the guide surface, and further having a pressure surface forming an angle of substan- tially 45° with the guide surface, whereby during movement of the adapter to cause the headed stud to enter the opening with the head overlying the ramp, the stud is forced into contact with the guide surface by the camming surface and the said arm is torsion- ally moved to provide space between the guide surface and the arm to permit entry of the ?tud into the ramp opening along a path parallel to the linear guide surface. The pressure surface con- tacts the stud under the stud head to retain the stud positioned adjacent the notched portion in the ramp opening.
