An adapter for attaching a fluid handling device to a catheter tubing of the present invention includes a body with a proximal end, a distal end and a passageway therethrough that defines a longitudinal axis. The proximal end of the adapter includes a fitting for attaching a fluid handling device and the distal end of the body includes a receptacle to accept and to form a releasable substantially fluid-tight connection to a preselected catheter tube that has an outside diameter. The adapter of the invention has a latch member disposed over the receptacle. The latch member has an axial access port therein with an inside surface to allow placement of a proximal end of a catheter tube into the receptacle. The latch member is disposed for rotatable movement with respect to the body between an insertion position wherein the receptacle is accessible to the catheter and a latched position to retain the catheter in the adapter. The adapter of the invention is constructed so that it is visually and tactily indicative of the position of the latch member with respect to the body, thereby enabling the practitioner to easily discern whether the adapter is in the insertion position or the latched position.
Adapteur servant à relier un dispositif de traitement de fluide à un tube de cathéter. Il est constitué d'un corps présentant une extrémité proximale, une extrémité distale et un passage formant un axe longitudinal. L'extrémité proximale de l'adapteur comprend un raccord servant à fixer le dispositif de traitement de fluide, et l'extrémité distale du corps comporte un réceptacle formant un raccordement amovible essentiellement étanche aux fluides avec un tube de cathéter présélectionné présentant un diamètre extérieur. L'adapteur est pourvu d'un élément d'enclenchement par-dessus le réceptacle. L'élément d'enclenchement présente une voie d'accès axiale ainsi qu'une surface interne permettant le placement d'une extrémité proximale du tube de cathéter dans le réceptacle. L'élément d'enclenchement est disposé de façon à permettre un mouvement rotatif par rapport au corps, entre une position d'insertion dans laquelle le cathéter a accès au réceptacle et une position d'enclenchement visant à retenir le cathéter dans l'adapteur. Ce dernier est fabriqué de façon à indiquer, de façon visuelle et tactile, la position de l'élément d'enclenchement par rapport au corps. Cela permet ainsi à l'intervenant d'évaluer facilement si l'adapteur est en position d'insertion ou d'enclenchement.
