The present invention relates to the identification and cloning of a novel gene, MARS (Modulator of Antigen Receptor Signaling), which is a putative tumor suppressor gene. The present invention also relates to the relation of the MARS gene to human cancers and its use in the diagnosis and prognosis of human cancer. The invention also relates to the therapy of human cancers which have a mutation in the MARS gene, or lack the MARS gene, including gene therapy, protein replacement therapy and protein mimetics. Finally, the invention relates to the screening of drugs for cancer therapy.

La présente invention concerne l'identification et le clonage d'un nouveau gène appelé MARS (modulateur de la signalisation du récepteur d'antigène) qui est un gène de suppression des tumeurs présumé; ainsi que la relation existant entre le gène MARS et des cancers chez l'homme et l'utilisation de ce gène dans le diagnostic et le pronostic du cancer chez l'homme. Cette invention concerne également la thérapie des cancers chez l'homme pour lesquels il existe une mutation dans le gène MARS ou bien pour lesquels ledit gène MARS est manquant, la thérapie des cancers comprenant la thérapie génique, la thérapie par remplacement de protéines et les mimétiques de protéines; ainsi que le criblage de médicaments pour la thérapie anticancéreuse.
