A repeater (202), which forwards packets from a first Ethernet collision domain (235) to a second Ethernet collision domain while filtering packets so as to eliminate unnecessary packets from being transmitted onto Ethernet networks, has register (210) for each port (204) where the register holds the address of a workstation from which the port last received a data packet. When a data packet addressed to the port is received by another port, the repeater asserts a signal line informing the other ports that the packet may be ignored by them, and the addressed port receives the data packet for transmission onto the Ethernet collision domain connected thereto.

Répéteur (202) qui envoie des paquets d'un premier domaine de collision (235) Ethernet à un second domaine de collision Ethernet, en filtrant les paquets de façon à éliminer la transmission de paquets inutiles dans les réseaux Ethernet. Ce répéteur comporte pour chaque point d'accès (204) un registre (210) qui conserve l'adresse du dernier poste de travail qui a envoyé un paquet de données à ce point d'accès. Lorsqu'un paquet de données adressé à un point d'accès est reçu par un autre point d'accès, le répéteur utilise une ligne de signal informant les autres accès qu'ils peuvent ignorer ce paquet, et le point d'accès destinataire reçoit le paquet de données pour le transmettre dans le domaine de collision Ethernet connecté à ce point d'accès.
