The object of the present invention is to use a multielement array antenna system whose characteristics change depending on the mode of the communication link : Transmission or reception. More specifically, the gain of the antenna is increased during the reception, so that the power level of the transmission do not exceed prescribed levels such as safety levels. The directional beam of the radiating elements array can be controlled adaptively during the reception phase and oriented toward another distant antenna. As a result, the system gain is substantially increased in a favored direction making a TDD (Time Division Dupplexing)communication link much more efficient.
