A method and apparatus for determining the data rate of a reverse link communication of an access terminal includes receiving a reverse activity bit (RAB) from an access point in the communication system, and passing the RAB to a digital filter to produce a filtered RAB. The reverse link data rate is determined based on the filtered value of the RAB. Furthermore, a processor in the access terminal may determine whether the access terminal is in an idle mode, and passing a non-busy state value of the RAB to the digital filter when the access terminal is in the idle mode. The filtered RA may be compared to a threshold to determine a mode of reverse link data rate determination. The mode defines a set of criteria for an aggressiveness level of increasing or decreasing the reverse link communication data rate. The processor, therefore, determines the data rate based on the filtered reverse activity bit in accordance with the determined mode.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour déterminer le débit de transmission de données d'une communication par liaison de retour d'un terminal d'accès. Le procédé selon l'invention consiste à recevoir un bit d'activité de retour (RAB / Reverse Activity Bit) en provenance d'un point d'accès du système de communication, puis à passer ce RAB dans un filtre numérique pour obtenir un RAB filtré. Dans un mode de réalisation, le débit de transmission de la liaison de retour est déterminé d'après la valeur filtrée du RAB. Par ailleurs, un processeur dans le terminal d'accès peut déterminer si ce dernier est en mode repos et, si tel est le cas, passer une valeur d'état non occupé du RAB dans le filtre numérique. Le RAB filtré peut être comparé à un seuil pour permettre de déterminer un mode de détermination du débit de transmission de la liaison de retour. Ce mode définit un ensemble de critères pour un niveau d'agressivité relativement à l'augmentation ou à la diminution du débit de transmission de la communication par liaison de retour. Ainsi, le processeur détermine le débit de transmission d'après le bit d'activité de retour filtré conformément au mode déterminé.
