The present invention is directed to a method of apparatus of enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio of a microphone array. The array includes a plurality of microphones and has a directivity pattern which is adjustable based on one or more parameters. The parameters are evaluated so as to realize an angular orientation of a directivity pattern null. This angular orientation of the directivity pattern null reduces microphone array output signal level. Parameter evaluation is performed under a constraint that the null be located within a predetermined region of space. Advantageously, the predetermined region of space is a region from which undesired acoustic energy is expected to impinge upon the array, and the angular orientation of a directivity pattern null substantially aligns with the angular orientation of undesired acoustic energy. Output signals of the array microphones are modified based on one or more evaluated parameters. An array output signal is formed based on modified and unmodified microphone output signals. The evaluation of parameters, the modification of output signals, and the formation of an array output signal may be performed a plurality of times to obtain an adaptive array response. Embodiments of the invention include those having a plurality of directivity patterns corresponding to a plurality of frequency subbands. Illustratively, the array may comprise a plurality of cardioid sensors.
La présente invention est constituée par une méthode et un appareil servant à accroître le rapport signal sur bruit dans un réseau de microphones. Ce réseau comporte une pluralité de microphones et son diagramme de directivité peut être ajusté au moyen d'un ou de plusieurs paramètres. Ces paramètres sont évalués pour déterminer l'orientation angulaire d'un point zéro du diagramme de directivité. Le niveau du signal de sortie du réseau de microphones est minimal à cette orientation du diagramme de directivité. L'évaluation des paramètres se fait sous la contrainte que le point zéro doit se trouver dans une direction prédéterminée. Cette direction prédéterminée est une direction dans laquelle on s'attend à recevoir des ondes acoustiques parasites au réseau et on oriente le point nul du diagramme de directivité approximativement dans cette même direction. Les signaux de sortie du réseau de microphones sont modifiés selon un ou plusieurs paramètres évalués. Le signal de sortie du réseau dépend des signaux de sortie modifiés et non modifiés des microphones. L'évaluation des paramètres, la modification des signaux de sortie et la production du signal de sortie du réseau peuvent être effectuées plusieurs fois pour obtenir une réponse adaptative de la part du réseau. Les diverses concrétisations de l'invention comprennent des concrétisations utilisant une pluralité de diagrammes de directivité correspondant à une pluralité de sous-bandes de fréquences. Le réseau de microphones peut comprendre, par exemple, une pluralité de capteurs cardioïdes.
