A method and apparatus for adaptive mobile station presence verification in a cellular system. Mobile station presence verification is performed only for selected requested handoffs from a first base station (B5) to a second base station (B1), where the selected requested handoffs are chosen based on a rate of mobile station presence verifications per requested handoffs from the first base station to the second base station, that is adaptively changed as handoffs occur. In an embodiment of the invention, the rate of mobile station presence verifications per requested handoffs from the first base station (B5) to the second base station (B1) is adaptively changed based on the rates of unsuccessful verifications (318) per verification attempts (312) and, the rate of unsuccessful handoffs (318) per requested handoff attempts (308), from the first base station (B5) to the second base station (B1).
L'invention porte sur un procédé et un appareil permettant d'effectuer une vérification adaptative de présence de station mobile dans un système cellulaire. Une vérification de présence de station mobile n'est effectuée que pour des transferts sélectionnés demandés d'une première station de base (B5) à une seconde station de base (B1), les transferts sélectionnés demandés étant choisis en fonction d'un taux de vérifications de présence de station mobile par transferts demandés à la seconde station de base par la première, ce qui est modifié de manière adaptative lorsque surviennent des transferts. Dans une réalisation selon l'invention, le taux de vérifications de présence de station mobile par transferts demandés à la seconde station de base (B1) par la première station de base (B5) est modifié de manière adaptative en fonction des taux de vérifications infructueuses (318) par tentatives de vérification (312) ainsi qu'en fonction des taux de vérifications infructueuses (318) par tentatives de transferts (308) demandés à la seconde station de base (B1) par la première station de base (B5).
