ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A composition is provided for the treatment of protein and carbo- hydrate containing animal feedstuffs. The composition is in the form of an aqueous solution containing in weight percent of the total weight: sulphite waste liquid or lignone sulphonate 5 to 15 formaldehyde (HCHO) 9 to 25 and one or more organic acids 30 to 60. A method of treating a feedstuff for ruminant animals in the moist state (moisture content 15 - 85%) is also provided which comprises the admixture with the feedstuff of an amount of the composition described above which is effective to improve the preservation of the feedstuff and reduce the degree of breakdown of the feedstuff in the rumen of the animal.
