A mortar cement composition is composed of a cement or ground portland cement clinker, ground limestone and/or lime, sand, a sufficient amount of water to render the composition flowable, and at least one water-soluble polymer present in the amount having a lower limit of about 0.001 wt.% and an upper limit of about 0.04 wt.% based on total dry weight of the ingredients, with the proviso that the extent of adsorption of the polymer onto the cement is less than 50 %, and wherein the resulting mortar has 8-16 % air content and greater than 70 psi flexural bond strength. This mortar cement composition is for use in building structures in all seismic zones.

L'invention concerne une composition de mortier qui se compose d'un ciment ou clinker de ciment portland moulu, de calcaire et/ou de chaux moulus, de sable, d'une quantité suffisante d'eau afin de fluidifier la composition et d'au moins un polymère soluble dans l'eau présent en quantité dont la limite inférieure est d'environ 0,001 % en poids et dont la limite supérieure est d'environ 0,04 % en poids en fonction du poids anhydre total des ingrédients, à condition que la capacité d'adsorption du polymère sur le ciment soit inférieure à 50 %. Le mortier obtenu présente une teneur en air comprise entre 8 et 16 % et une résistance d'adhésion à la flexion supérieure à 70 psi. Cette composition de mortier est destinée à la construction de structures dans toutes les zones sismiques.
