ABSTRACT A method and apparatus for modifying an address code in a receiver to match an address code of an associated transmitter is disclosed. Upon activation, the receiver is placed in a modification mode. The transmitter is then activated to transmit an address code to the receiver. The receiver, while in the modification mode, receives the transmitted address code and stores data corresponding to the transmitted code in memory. The receiver unit then exits the modification mode. Thereafter, upon activation of the transmitter unit, and upon reception of an address code matching that stored in the receiver memory the receiver generates a control signal to initiate a desired control function.
