A method and apparatus for enabling a user to request location information from a mobile station telephone unit (10) is disclosed. A user enters a request for location information concerning a particular type of business. The request is processed by a module (20) within the mobile station (10) and transmitted to the home location register (40) for the mobile station (10) via the base station (36) and mobile switching center (30) serving the mobile station (10). The home location register (40) determines the location area and cell identity for the mobile station (10) and transmits this information plus the original request to a relational database (55). The relational database (55) determines the identity of businesses located either within or near the location area and/or cell identity of the mobile station (10). This information and the addresses of the identified business is transmitted back to the mobile station (10) for review by the user.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant à un utilisateur de demander des informations de position depuis un poste téléphonique du service mobile (10). En l'occurrence, un utilisateur émet une demande d'informations de position concernant un type particulier d'entreprise. La demande est traitée par un module (20) à l'intérieur même du poste mobile (10) puis transmise au registre de positions de rattachement (40) de la station mobile (10) via la station de base (36) et le centre de commutation mobile (30) desservant la station mobile (10). Le registre de positions de rattachement (40) détermine la zone de la position et l'identité de cellule de la station mobile (10) puis émet cette information plus la requête originale adressée à une base de données relationnelle (55). La base de données relationnelle (55) détermine l'identité de l'entreprise située soit à l'intérieur, soit au voisinage de la zone de la position et/ou l'identité de cellule de la station mobile (10). Cette information, ainsi que les adresses de l'entreprise identifiée, sont renvoyées à la station mobile (10) pour consultation par l'utilisateur.
