ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In an improved addressing technique for fire-, gas-, and intrusion-detection systems, a detector has detector base with an identification module in which a fixed, unique identification number or symbol is represented. An identification number is selected from among more than 10,000 numbers. The detector is capable or reading this identification number. The identification module may include resistors with different resistance values, a read-only memory, of a bar code.
