Abstract An advance addition product containing 1,2-epoxide groups if prepared from the reaction hydantoin diglycidyl compound of the formula Image wherein R1 is hydrogen, alkyl containing 1 to 8 carbon atoms or cycloalkyl containing 5 to 6 carbon atoms; and R2 is alkyl containing 5 to 8 carbon atoms or cycloalkyl containing 5 to 6 carbon atoms, with less than 1 equivalent of NH groups per epoxide group of the diglycidyl compound of a binuclear bis-hydantoin compound of the formula Image -2- wherein R3 and R4 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; or together R1 and R2 form tetra- methylena or pentamethylene, and A is a member selected from the group consisting of alkylene, alkyladene or alkylidene substituted by one or more halogen atoms. Such adducts exhibit superior melt-flow characteristics and, when formulated into a thermosettable coating composition, exhibit excellent weathering and over-cura properties.
