The invention is based on the discovery that compounds of Formula (I), are unexpectedly highly potent and selective inhibitors of the adenosine A, receptor. Adenosine A, antagonists can be useful in the prevention and/or treatment of numerous diseases, including cardiac and circulatory disorders, degenerative disorders of the central nervous system, respiratory disorders, and many diseases for which diuretic treatment is suitable. In one embodiment, the invention features a compound of formula (I), wherein R3 is selected from particular bicycloheptyl, bicyclooctyl, tricycloheptyl and tricyclooctyl groups.

L'invention repose sur le fait que les composés représentés par la formule (I) sont des inhibiteurs exceptionnellement très efficaces et sélectifs du récepteur A1 de l'adénosine. Les antagonistes A1 de l'adénosine peuvent être utiles pour prévenir et traiter de nombreuses maladies, notamment les troubles cardiaques et circulatoires, les troubles dégénératifs du système nerveux central, les troubles respiratoires, et de nombreuses maladies dans lesquelles un traitement diurétique est approprié. Selon un mode de réalisation, l'invention caractérise un composé représenté par la formule (I).
