ABSTRACT Apparatus for making a roll for cleaning garments or the like has a device which draws a flexible web from a reel and advances the web lengthwise past a weakening device for spaced-apart portions of the running web. Layers of a hardenable adhesive-repellent liquid material are applied to one side of the running web so that a layer is immediately adjacent to one or both sides of each weakened portion. The other side of the web is coated with an adhesive and the web is thereupon convoluted so that the adhesive-coated side is the outer side of the resulting roll.
