Abstract This invention provides a curable adhesive composition suitable for splicing optical fibers or connecting optical fibers to other optical elements which comprises a fluoracrylate having the for- mula Image wherein R1 and R2 are acrylate, methacrylate or hydrogen, n is an integer of 1 through 5, and at least one R1 is acrylate or methacrylate and at least one R2 is acrylate or methacrylate. The adhesive containing the fluoracrylate may also contain a polyfunctional acrylate or methacrylate monomer having 2 to 7 acrylate or methacrylate groups, which is used to adjust the refractive index value of the adhesive composition to precisely match the optical fiber refractive index. The adhesive com- position may also contain an acrylate or methacrylate oligomer which does not affect the refractive index and is used to adjust the viscosity of the uncured adhesive composition to the desired level. The adhesive composition may contain a photoinitiator and be photocured.
