An adhesive composition comprising a polymer comprising a unit derived from N-vinylamide as a major component and a vinyl resin emulsion in a solids weight ratio of 5:95 to 65:35. The adhesive composition is excellent in adhesiveness, resistance to water, antiseptic properties, and mildewproofing properties as compared with conventional starch paste and is used widely in various fields including applications of decorative laminate sheets in construction, woodworking, dwelling parts of vehicles, vessels. A composition provided as powder is convenient for packaging, storage and transportation and which upon use can be dispersed with ease to form a paste by adding it in water with simple stirring.
