A conformable dressing such as a first-aid dressing or a ward dressing comprises a polymeric foam absorbent layer (2) having a liquid impervious moisture vapour permeable backing layer (3) and on the body facing surface, a discontinuous layer of adhesive (4), the thickness of the absorbent layer at the margins (22) of the dressing being substantially less than that of the layer between the margins (21). The adhesive may be applied directly to the foam or may be applied to an intermediate discontinuous layer (5) such as a polymer net which itself is laminated or bonded to the foam absorbent layer.
