ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a method of making a laminate or composite, comprising interposing between two or more laminae and in contact therewith an aqueous composition comprising an organic polyhydroxy compound, an ammonium phosphate, water-dispersible polyvinyl acetate, a water- dispersible formaldehyde resin and a polyamido compound and allowing the composition to harden in contact with said laminae thereby to provide between the laminae at least one layer of intumescent material which adheres or cements said laminae together.
