The invention relates to water resistant adhesives. Many conventional adhesives are less effective or ineffective if the surfaces that are to be bonded together are wet or if water is applied to the bond after it has been formed. The invention provides a composition for use as an adhesive which comprises an extensin protein; and either a non-enzymatic bifunctional crosslinking agent; or a phenol oxidase and a phenol hydroxylase. Adhesives formed using compositions according to the invention have excellent strength, durability and water resistant properties.
L'invention porte sur des adhésifs résistant à l'eau. En effet de nombreux adhésifs sont inopérants ou moins efficaces lorsque les surfaces à réunir sont mouillées ou si elles ont reçu de l'eau après la formation de la liaison. L'adhésif de l'invention est une composition comprenant une protéine extensine, et soit un agent réticulant enzymatique bifonctionnel, soit une phénol oxydase ou une phénol hydroxylase. Les adhésifs utilisant ladite composition sont excellents du point de vue solidité, durabilité, et résistance à l'eau.
