To prevent or improve various pathologic conditions typified by life style- related diseases, it is intended to provide a substance having an effect of promoting the expression of adiponectin and elevating its level as well as use thereof. An adiponectin expression promoter containing as the active ingredient at least one cyanidine compound selected from the group consisting of cyanidine and cyanidine glycosides is applied to drugs or food compositions to be used for the purposes in which the pharmacological effects of adiponectin are utilized.
