Abstract An adjustable axial piston engine comprises at least one piston- cylinder unit (13). An oblique plate (16) is pivotable with the aid of a slide bearing (42) and can be pivoted by a servo-device (48). The slide bearing (42) covers only part of the surface of the oblique plate (16) or transverse wall (3) of the housing. The servo-device (48) is disposed adjacent to the slide bearing on the same side of the oblique plate (16) at a spacing from the pivot axis (S). This allows the cross-section of the engine to be reduced. Fig. 1
