ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The present disclosure describes an adjustable base assembly for supporting a ladder for compensating for an uneven foundation surface or to enable the ladder to be inclined at a desired angle. The assembly comprises an attachment structure including an upper, transversely extending bar which carries a holder for embracing and securing the sidepieces of the ladder, the bar being firmly connected via a spacer device. The spacer device presents an upper, transversely extending U-shaped strut which embraces an arcuate part and which can be clamped firmly to the arcuate part. The assembly also comprises a U-shaped strut extending across the arcuate part in a chordal manner. The strut can be clamped with a friction-locking action against the arcuate part with the aid of a clamping device which extends centrally through the U-shaped strut and which can be screwed into the spacer device.
