An apparatus for controlling the direction of drill bit within a wellbore. The apparatus comprises a first housing with a first housing axis therein, and wherein the first housing has a first threaded opening having a first threaded opening axis. The first housing has a helical end. A second housing is included, and the second housing contains a second housing axis, and a second threaded opening having a second threaded opening axis configured to engage with the first threaded opening. A collar is included that has a helical collar end that engages the helical collar end and wherein the helical collar end is configured reciprocal to the helical end, and rotational displacement of the first housing relative To the collar will angularly displace the drill bit axis. The apparatus may further include spline members for locking the collar in place relative to the first and second housing.

L'invention concerne un appareil pour commander la direction d'un trépan dans un puits de forage. L'appareil comporte un premier boîtier qui renferme un premier axe de boîtier, le premier boîtier présentant une première ouverture filetée dotée d'un premier axe d'ouverture filetée. Le premier boîtier possède une extrémité hélicoïdale. Un second boîtier renferme un second axe de boîtier et une seconde ouverture filetée présentant un second axe d'ouverture filetée et configurée pour venir en prise avec la première ouverture filetée. Un collier présente une extrémité hélicoïdale qui vient en prise avec l'extrémité hélicoïdale, l'extrémité de collier hélicoïdale étant configurée pour coïncider avec l'extrémité hélicoïdale. De plus, le mouvement rotatif du premier boîtier par rapport au collier déplace angulairement l'axe du trépan. L'appareil peut en outre comprendre des éléments cannelés permettant de verrouiller le collier à demeure par rapport aux premier et second boîtiers.
