ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus for adjusting the weight distribution between a tractor and a trailer pulled by the tractor. The apparatus includes a housing securable to a frame of the trailer, the housing including first and second parallel spaced apart plates each having first and second laterally opposite edges with at least one of the plates having an elongated opening therein. The housing further includes first and second guide members adjacent the first and second edges respectively, the guide members having portions extending between the first and second plates. The apparatus further includes a king pin plate slidably received between the first and second plates and between the first and second guide members such that the king pin plate is covered by the housing and is slidable therein along a path of sliding movement extending in a direction parallel with the longitudinal axis of the trailer. The king pin plate has a king pin extending therefrom, the king pin extending through the elongated opening in one of the plates and being connectable to a king pin receptacle of the tractor. The apparatus further includes a locking device having an unlocked position in which the king pin plate is free to slide relative to the housing and a locked position in which the king pin plate is locked against sliding movement relative to the housing, the king pin plate being lockable at a plurality of positions along the path of sliding movement. Preferably, the apparatus includes a controlling device for controlling the locking device to selectively place the locking device into the locked position and into the unlocked position. Also preferably the controlling device includes a remote control for controlling the locking device from a remote location inside a cab portion of the tractor.
