A positioning assembly comprising at least two positioning elements and having an uppermost surface that acts as a seat for a free-standing object. The elements are generally wedge-shaped, have upper and lower surfaces at an angle to one another, are adapted to be placed one on the other and can be rotated relative to one another in order to vary the angle between the uppermost and lowermost surfaces of the assembly. No fastening means is required for fixing the elements or the free- standing object to each other. Angular orientation of the uppermost surface to the lowermost surface can range from parallel to 50 degrees. The elements may have co- operating guiding means to aid in rotating the elements relative to one another and to resist shifting. In addition, the surfaces of the elements may be adapted with concave or cavity portions in order to allow better seating on a surface.
