Abstract of the disclosure. A proximity fuze (74) of adjustable maximum range, con- figured to detect target pulses reflected only from a target within the lethality range of an associated war- head (76). The invention comprises a wideband switchable video amplifier (30) connected to receive target pulses detected by a detector (28), and serving to supply therefrom an amplified version of the pulses to a pulse counter (54). The wideband switchable video amplifier (30) is connected to receive signals from a gate genera- tor (40), which signals do not interfere with the pas- sage through the video amplifier (30) of pulses repre- sentative or a target that will fall within the lethali- ty range of the associated warhead (76). However, the gate generator (40) provides blanking signals to the vi- deo amplifier (30) that serve to prevent pulses reflec- ted from a target outside such lethality range from rea- ching the pulse counter (54), and therefore preventing inappropriate detonation of the warhead (76). Quite ad- vantageously, the novel fuze concept is usable with electro-optical devices or with radar. Fig. 1.
