ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A plurality of fingers are pivoted by one end thereof to a socket body and are enclosed within a par- tially rotatable shell covering the socket body. A spiral slot in the shell is engaged by a pin or the like extending from the body so that when the shell is partially rotated, the shell extends or retracts axially relative to the body thus opening or closing the other ends of the fin- gers due to the engagement of the outer surfaces of the fingers with the end of the shell. This enables the fin- gers to adjust in order to grasp or grip a nut or bolt within a size range governed by design parameters. The other end of the body can be engaged by a conventional socket drive handle.
