8 An adjustable template includes an elongate flexible band of uniform width, the band having parallel edges. Several brackets are secured to the band at regular intervals, with all brackets extending in the same direction away from the band. Each bracket is positioned such that, when the band lies with one edge against a flat surface, and the band width extends substantially perpendicular to that surface, a portion associated with the bracket contacts the surface, thus maintaining perpendicularity between the band and the surface. The combination further includes a plurality of elongate plates, each with two opposed ends, and fasteners for securing the ends of each elongate plate between two adjacent brackets, thereby rigidifying the flexible band in a desired configuration.
