A B S T R A C T An adjusting mechanism for postage machines and revenue-stamping machines provides, for each printing roll or printing cylinder, its own step- ping motor and racks for the adjustment. In order to achieve a compact design, the stepping motors, and the racks which they actuate, are arranged radially in relation to the printing-drum shaft, whereas double racks which adjust the type-wheels are arranged parallel with each other. The racks and double racks are coupled together by hooked connections, each hook-shaped part being made wider than the rest of the rack so that additional measures for converting radial guidance into parallel guidance are unnecessary. Each double rack is used to actuate an additional printing roll. For that reason the racks are adjustable beyond the possible number of steps of the printing wheels and carry out the stepping control by means of levers and pawls.
