An adsorbent for oral administration characterized by comprising a surface- modified spherical activated carbon which has an average particle diameter of 50 to 200 ~m, specific surface area determined by the BET method of 700 m2/g or larger, bulk density less than 0.54 g/mL, total acid group content of 0.30 to 1.20 meq/g, and total basic group content of 0.20 to 0.9 meq/g. This adsorbent for oral administration has a high adsorbing ability and adsorbs a large amount of toxic substances when it is present in the intestinal canal. It is effective in significantly reducing the amount of proteins excreted in urine.

Un adsorbant pour administration orale caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend un charbon actif sphérique à surface modifiée ayant une granulométrie moyenne comprise entre 50 et 200 µm, une surface spécifique déterminée par la méthode BET de 700 m /g ou plus, une densité apparente de moins de 0,54 g/mL, une teneur totale en groupe acide comprise entre 0,30 et 1,20 meq/g, une teneur totale en groupe basique comprise entre 0,20 et 0,9 meq/g.
