An adsorbent for removing sulfur compounds, which is capable of efficiently removing various sulfur compounds from a hydrocarbon fuel even at room temperature to a low concentration; a process for efficiently producing hydrogen that can be used in a fuel cell; and a fuel cell system wherein use is made of hydrogen obtained by the process. In particular, an adsorbent for removing sulfur compounds from a hydrocarbon fuel, comprising cerium oxide; a process for producing hydrogen for use in a fuel cell, comprising subjecting a hydrocarbon fuel to desulfurization treatment with the use of the above adsorbent so as to remove sulfur compounds and bringing the thus desulfurized fuel into contact with a partial oxidation reforming catalyst, an autothermal reforming catalyst or a steam reforming catalyst to thereby produce hydrogen for a fuel cell; and a fuel cell system wherein use is made of hydrogen obtained by this process.
L'invention concerne : un adsorbant utilisé pour l'élimination de composés sulfurés, pouvant éliminer de manière efficace différents composés sulfurés contenus dans un combustible renfermant des hydrocarbures, même à température ambiante et dans une faible concentration; un procédé pour produire de manière efficace de l'hydrogène pouvant être utilisé dans une pile à combustible; et un système de pile à combustible utilisant l'hydrogène obtenu selon ledit procédé. L'invention concerne en particulier: un adsorbant servant à éliminer des composés sulfurés contenus dans un combustible renfermant des hydrocarbures, ledit adsorbant contenant de l'oxyde de cérium; un procédé pour produire de l'hydrogène utilisé dans une pile à combustible, ledit procédé consistant à soumettre un combustible renfermant des hydrocarbures à un traitement de désulfuration au moyen dudit adsorbant de façon à éliminer les composés sulfurés et à mettre le combustible ainsi désulfuré en contact avec un catalyseur de reformage par oxydation partielle, un catalyseur de reformage autothermique ou un catalyseur de reformage à la vapeur pour produire ainsi de l'hydrogène destiné à une pile à combustible; ainsi qu'un système de pile à combustible utilisant l'hydrogène obtenu selon ledit procédé.
