ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Halogen containing chemicals are removed from a liquid hydrocarbon stream by a solid non-regenerative adsorbent in a treating zone. When the adsorbent becomes incapable of treat- ing the liquid stream, it is used to treat a gaseous stream to remove halogens. A sequential switching of the liquid and gaseous streams provides continuous operation with fixed beds of adsorbent. The preferred embodiment encompasses a moving- bed process in which fresh alumina removes a boron oxide hy- drate complex from a liquid aromatic hydrocarbon stream and the resulting unregenerable used alumina then treats an off- gas stream of the process to remove fluorine.
