In the regeneration of hydrocarbon adsorption beds typically the entire bed is heated by hot inert gas flowing continuously through the bed until sufficient hydrocarbons are removed. Desorption rates are often limited by restrictions on the maximum temperature that can be used. Also, in some instances only a portion of the bed may be contaminated and therefore heating the entire bed is both time consuming and costly. The present invention utilizes a combination of strategic positioning of heated zones and vacuum purging to maximize the desorption efficiencies, saving energy, purge gas and time. - 1 -
