In one embodiment, a system comprises a filter and at least one electrodeionization (EDI) unit for chemical recovery. The filter is adapted to receive a fluid and to remove a selected chemical element or contaminant from the fluid. The EDI unit (140) is coupled to the filter and adapted to recover a chemical element from the fluid and to separate the recovered chemical element from the fluid.
