A multi-shouldered fric-tion stir welding tool (10) comprises an integral shank-pin unit (11) having a plu-rality of pin portions on the shank-pin unit, where the plurality of pin portions for driving into a plurality of joints to perform a friction stir welding operation on the corresponding plurality of joints and, where a shank portion of the shank--pin unit is for attachment to an optional axial tension rod (19), each of the friction stir welding modules comprises a pair of shoulders (13, 14) that is connected to the shank-pin unit where each shoulder has a distal end and a proximal end, where the proximal end of each shoulder faces the pin portion of the shank-pin unit, whereby the shoulder and pin(s) ro-tate in unison, and a pair of split collars or a pair of nuts that is connected to the shank-pin unit and faces the distal end of each shoulder, where the plurality of fric-tion stir welding modules are connected to each other whereby the modules rotate in unison to simultaneously make a plu-rality of parallel welds. In addition, a method of friction stir welding a plurality of joints simultaneously comprising using at least one multi-shouldered friction stir welding tool is provided.
La présente invention concerne un outil de soudage par friction malaxage à plusieurs épaulements (10), comprenant une unité tigesbroches intégrée (11) comportant une pluralité de parties broches sur ladite unité, la pluralité des parties broches permettant dentraîner une pluralité de joints pour effectuer une opération de soudage par friction malaxage sur la pluralité correspondante de joints et une partie tiges de lunité tiges-broches servant à la fixation à une tige de tension axiale facultative (19), chacun des modules de soudage par friction malaxage comprenant une paire dépaulements (13, 14) reliée à lunité tiges-broches, chaque épaulement comportant une extrémité distale et une extrémité proximale, lextrémité proximale de chaque épaulement faisant face à la partie broches de lunité tigesbroches, lépaulement et la ou les broches tournant à lunisson et une paire de colliers fendus ou une paire décrous qui est reliée à lunité tiges-broches et fait face à lextrémité distale de chaque épaulement, les modules de la pluralité de modules de soudage par friction malaxage étant connectés entre eux, les modules tournant à lunisson afin de réaliser simultanément une pluralité de soudures parallèles. En outre, linvention concerne un procédé de soudage par friction malaxage dune pluralité de joints comprenant simultanément lutilisation dau moins un outil de soudage par friction malaxage à plusieurs épaulements.
