A system and method for authenticating that advertisements are properly displayed at a remote computer (2). The advertisements are received electronically and are stored in a memory device at the remote computer. The advertisements are output to users when the remote computer is off-line. Each advertisement is authenticated by the remote computer prior to output to ensure, for example, that the advertisement has not been tampered with, modified or replaced. Information as to when advertisements are output is recorded and used for billing the advertisers. This information can be stored in a statistics file on the remote computer. When the statistics file is transferred to a central computer (4), the statistics file is authenticated to ensure that it has not been tampered with, modified or replaced. The authentication scheme can be used as part of an electronic mail system.
L'invention a trait à un système et au procédé correspondant attestant de la conformité de l'affichage de communiqués sur un ordinateur situé à distance (2). Les communiqués, qui sont reçus par voie électronique, sont stockés dans une mémoire de l'ordinateur distant et mis à la disposition des utilisateurs lorsque celui-ci est en mode non connecté. Chaque communiqué est authentifié par l'ordinateur distant avant d'être mis à disposition afin, notamment, de s'assurer qu'il n'a pas été adultéré, modifié ou remplacé. L'information reçue jusqu'au moment de l'affichage est enregistrée et utilisée pour établir la facturation destinée aux annonceurs. Cette information peut être stockée sous forme de fichier statistique dans l'ordinateur distant et, lorsque ce fichier est transmis à un ordinateur central (4), il est authentifié pour s'assurer qu'il n'a pas été adultéré, modifié ou remplacé. Il est possible d'utiliser ce procédé d'authentification dans le cadre d'un système de courrier électronique.
