2090619 9203218 PCTABS00010 Method and apparatus for the aeration of liquids, typically for wastewater treatment or pollution control. Liquid is introduced into the top end of a vertical pipe (3) having its lower end immersed in a body of liquid (4) through a nozzle (2) forming a downwardly moving jet (8). The jet entrains air (for example through inlet (6)) forming a mixture of fine bubbles which issues from the lower end (5) of the conduit into the body of liquid. A diffuser plate (10) may be provided to disperse the bubbles in the body of liquid and draft tubes may be provided within the pipe to control the jet and the formation of bubbles.
