There is provided an aerodynamic stabilizer (10) assembly adapted to be mounted in the rear portion (14) of the roof (12) of a motor vehicle. The assembly includes a framework having a front edge and partitioned to define separate openings (15a, 15b). A pair of elongated air deflection panels (11) each sized to cover one of the framework openings (15a, 15b) and each air deflection panel (11) being pivotedly mounted to the framework along a longitudinal axis at the front edge of the assembly framework and being pivotable between a lowered passive position and a raised active position. The assembly framework also includes means for limiting the upward rotational movement of the rear edge of each of the panels beyond the raised active position. There is also provided a deflection plate (40) mounted along the left side of the assembly framework and a rear air deflector (42) located on and adjacent to the rear window and extending from the roof to the rear deck. When a motor vehicle is moving at a high rate of speed and is spinning out the low pressure of the air moving across the roof creates a pressure differential which acts on the panels and causes the panels to rotate to the active raised position thereby resulting in a downward force urging the motor vehicle against the road.
L'invention se rapporte à un ensemble de stabilisateurs aérodynamiques (10) conçu pour être monté dans la partie arrière (14) du toit (12) d'un véhicule à moteur. L'ensemble comprend une structure pourvue d'un bord avant, divisé, afin de former des ouvertures séparées (15a, 15b); une paire de panneaux déflecteurs (11) allongés, chacun ayant été dimensionné de façon à recouvrir une des ouvertures (15a, 15b) de la structure, et chaque panneau déflecteur (11) étant monté pivotant par rapport à la structure le long d'un axe longitudinal au niveau du bord avant de la structure de l'ensemble, chaque panneau pouvant pivoter entre une position passive abaissée et une position active relevée. La structure de l'ensemble comprend également un dispositif pour limiter le mouvement rotatif vers le haut du bord arrière de chacun des panneaux afin qu'ils ne se déplacent pas au-delà de la position active relevée. L'invention se rapporte aussi à une plaque de déflexion (40) montée le long du côté gauche de la structure de l'ensemble et à un déflecteur arrière (42) placé au niveau et à côté de la vitre arrière, et s'étendant du toit au coffre. Lorsqu'un véhicule à moteur se déplace à très haute vitesse et qu'il amorce un tête-à-queue, la faible pression de l'air se déplaçant sur le toit crée un différentiel de pression qui agit sur les panneaux et les fait tourner jusqu'à la position relevée active, ce qui provoque une force descendante qui plaque le véhicule à moteur au sol.
