Aerosol ointment compositions are provided that, when a deposit is expelled from an aerosol container containing the composition onto damaged tissue, there is applied to the tissue a cold ointment which exerts a cooling pain relief effect and a medicinal therapeutic effect on the tissue. Examples of typical ointments of the invention are those for the temporary relief of hemorrhoids, treatment of sunburn and relief from arthritic pain. A method is provided for the manufacture of an aerosol ointment composition that is capable of expelling from an aerosol container an ointment that exerts on damaged tissues both a pain relieving cooling effect and a medicinal therapeutic effect. The aerosol composition enhances the therapeutic action of an ointment by instantly producing a sustained cooling effect which provides fast relief from pain and itching as well as a tendency to shrink swollen, inflamed tissue in advance of the slower action of any medication present in the ointment. The aerosol composition consists of from about 10 to about 60 percent by weight of ingredients of an ointment that is an oil-in-water emulsion and from about 40 to about 90 percent by weight of liquefied propellant that is predominantly a non-polar propellant. The sum of the ointment ingredients and the propellant equals 100 percent by weight of the composition.

L'invention concerne une composition aérosol comprenant un onguent qui, vaporisée sur un tissu atteint à partir d'une bombe aérosol, présente la forme d'un onguent frais qui rafraîchit le tissu concerné et soulage la douleur tout en ayant un effet thérapeutique sur ce tissu. Les onguents de l'invention sont utilisés dans le soulagement provisoire des hémorroïdes, le traitement des coups de soleil et le soulagement des douleurs arthritiques. L'invention concerne aussi un procédé de préparation d'une composition à base d'onguent, procédé permettant de diffuser un onguent qui a, sur les tissus atteint, à la fois un effet rafraîchissant soulageant la douleur et un effet thérapeutique. La composition aérosol améliore l'action thérapeutique d'un onguent car elle produit instantanément un effet rafraîchissant prolongé qui soulage rapidement la douleur et les démangeaisons et qui a tendance à désenfler les tissus enflammés bien avant tout autre substance médicamenteuse plus lente présente dans l'onguent. La composition renferme entre 10 et 60 % en poids de composants à base d'onguent, sous forme d'émulsion aqueuse, et entre environ 40 et environ 90 % en poids d'un agent propulsif liquéfié qui est, de préférence, un agent propulsif non polaire, le composant d'onguent et l'agent propulsif représentant 100 % en poids de la composition.
