Aerospace vehicle fairing systems (100a, 100b) and associated methods, including fairings that house flap surface drive mechanisms on aircraft (150), are disclosed herein. One aspect of the invention is directed toward a fairing system (100) that includes a fairing (120) mounted to an airfoil (110). The fairing (120) can have a longitudinal axis (L2) and a fairing section (122) extending along the longitudinal axis forward and aft of a trailing edge portion (112) of an airfoil section (111). In one embodiment of the invention, the fairing section (122) can have a wide portion (124) located aft of the airfoil section (111) with a single spanwise width (W1) that is greater than or equal to a spanwise width of any other portion of the fairing section (122). In another embodiment of the invention the fairing section (122) can have a first side (51) and a second side (52), each with a point of maximum curvature. At least one point of maximum curvature can be located aft of the airfoil section (111).
