Polymeric affinity membranes are prepared from a copolymer compatible with a water insoluble polymer matrix and have a plurality of hydroxyl groups. The membranes have a plurality of reaction sites provided on the surface of the membrane which are selective to binding a specific biological material. Typically these materials are selected from proteins, peptides, hormones, antigens, antibodies and the like and thus the affinity membranes of the present invention are useful in immunoaffinity binding tests.
