An agent for prophylaxis or treatment of cataract, which comprises as an active ingredient at least one compound selected from a group consisting of a carbostyril compound of formula (1), wherein R1 is a lower alkanoyl-substituted lower alkoxy group, and the bond between the 3- and 4-positions of the carbostyril nucleus is single bond or double bond, or a salt thereof, 5-dimethylamino-1-[4- (2-methylbenzoylamino)benzoyl]-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-benzazepine and 5-hydroxy-7-chloro-1-[2-methyl-4-(2-methyl-benzoylamino)benzoyl]- 2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-benzazepine, a method for prophylaxis or treatment of cataract using the same.
